The Difference Between Carrier Oils & Essential oils

By  |

Oils have been in our lives since time in memorial. In the stone age women used oils to heal, cook their food and as well as for beauty purposes.

Let me take you back into history a bit…

In my opinion, the women in that era were much wiser. They were indeed family oriented and generally nicer to other women. On the whole, this is about sisterhood & womanhood. They had no mobile phones, no internet, no instagram or Facebook.

If you have seen The Red Tent you would probably understand me better. Dinah, daughter of Jacob and sister of Joseph who is a minor character in the Bible but the author has broadened her story.

(If you haven’t watched it, I suggest you do. It’s an awesome movie!!!)

But what really caught my attention of these elders was their use of oils, herbs and spices. These women grew the herbs & spices themselves and made oils & essential oils for many uses including healing & consumption.

Back to the present…

There are typically 2 types of oils, Carrier Oils and Essential Oils.

Carrier oil, also known as base oil or vegetable oil is used to dilute essential oils and absolutes before they are applied to the skin in massage and aromatherapy. They are so named because they carry the essential oil onto the skin. Wikipedia
